Modifying search pages for Santa Clarita chiropractic

Monday, April 30th, 2007

Here’s a step-by-step summary of what to do when changing an active page from one directory to another when on the same chiropractic website.

Here is the page we started with…

Santa Clarita Chiropractor
http://www.planetc1.com/chiropractor_directory/santa_clarita_chiropractor.html
Page has a PR five

Ranked number five on Google for search term. That’s not anywhere near good enough.

Goal is to reposition page in a new directory without losing traffic or page rank.

Actual HTML page is moving from the directory… /chiropractor_directory/ to /NearMe/

We will be setting up a 301 permanent redirect

Step one: login to domain via FTP, locate page in directory and transfer to local machine for editing.
Step two: After page is edited and saved upload via FTP into proper directory then check page using HTML browser.
Step three: Setup page redirect on the server (using 301 redirect rules)

New page location…
http://www.planetc1.com/NearMe/santa-clarita-chiropractor.html

After that is done check to see the page loads properly when redirected. Check in Google or other major search engine. Make any changes you can on internal links to the new page. For example, this page had a link from the home page. We want to update that page as well.

Page rank will disappear on new page since it is brand new. If all goes well page rank should be applied to new page and appear within the next 30 days.

I’ll post here when page rank appears that we will have a general timeline for how long it took. Page appears on Planet Chiropractic.

Chiropractic Website Urges Support For Organizations

Sunday, April 29th, 2007

by Michael Dorausch, DC

Los Angeles: Keeping any organization going requires support and input from members. After all, it’s not one individual player that makes an organization successful, it’s the combination of working together as a team in pursuit of the organization’s mission that makes it so great.

The two chiropractic associations in California (and other chiropractic organizations across the globe) would benefit greatly by garnering increased support and participation from doctors in the field, vendors, educators, students, chiropractic family members, and even the people we serve.

Individuals working for chiropractic associations throughout the world put in lots of hours, often times voluntarily, and they don’t ask for anything in return. In my experience these individuals want to see the profession of chiropractic continue to grow and flourish so that more people will be able to receive chiropractic care than do today. I know of many chiropractors who have traveled all over the United States lecturing on the benefits of chiropractic care as well as lecturing about the great opportunities presented by becoming a chiropractor. Their main mission was to spread the message of chiropractic, without expectation of receiving something in return.

I published an article to the planet chiropractic blog pages last week urging greater financial support of California’s chiropractic associations. In the post, titled: Support California Chiropractic Organizations, I offered an incentive to those deciding to make a financial contribution to either of the two chiropractic associations during the month of May.

let's talk about chiropracticYou can visit the post or get some of the information here which was modified from the blog page…

How about this for some incentive? Support your chiropractic organizations in the State of California and get something additional in return! For the month of May Planet Chiropractic will send 10 copies of individually wrapped audio CDs featuring Dr. James Sigafoose giving a live lecture on the benefits of chiropractic care for checks you write made out either to the CCA or ICAC.

Thanks to the generosity of legendary chiropractor Dr. James Sigafoose, Planet Chiropractic was able to record a very special patient appreciation talk that he gave for his daughters chiropractic practice back in December of 2000. The event was attended by more than 400 people and we captured the audio digitally. It was edited to create a 30 minute CD audio presentation titled “Let’s Talk about Chiropractic.”

Here are the detailsÂ…

1. Write a valid check of $50 (US funds) or more made out to either chiropractic organization (California Chiropractic Association - International Chiropractors Association of California).
2. Mail your check to Planet Chiropractic before the end of May, 2007 (address is listed below)
3. We will mail you 10 chiropractic audio CDs (each individually shrink-wrapped and listed at $21.95)
4. We will deliver all checks to the organizations at months-end and weÂ’ll cover the cost of shipping CDs to you!

You do not have to be a chiropractor in the state of California to be able to participate and benefit from this offer. This offer is limited to the continental United States (mainly so we can keep shipping costs under control). You can visit the links below if you want more information about the products weÂ’ll be sending you. DonÂ’t forget to include your shipping address along with payment so we can get your items to the proper location.

If youÂ’d like to be thanked publicly on the Planet Chiropractic web site, please provide pertinent office information. This offer is subject to change and if any changes are made we will post that information here.

Please make your checks out to the chiropractic organizations listed above (not to Planet Chiropractic), you can mail them to this addressÂ… (itÂ’s okay if you want to make a check out to each organization)

Planet Chiropractic
2509 Ocean Ave.
Venice, CA 90291

I’d really like to see people offer greater support to their state chiropractic organizations and I know that Dr. James Sigafoose feels the same way. If you’d like your state chiropractic association to benefit from a similar offer, forward them this information and have them contact us for more details at the address listed above.

California Vaccine News AB16

Thursday, April 26th, 2007

provided by NVIC

This may come too late as voting on this bill was yesterday, April 25, 2007. Information is being included on planet chiropractic for educational purposes only. A copy of the bill (AB 16) is available below PDF format. It is recommended that you visit the link for more information.

A bill being considered by the California legislature would strip parents of the right to exempt their child from vaccination. California residents who wish to express their views on this should contact legislators immediately.

CALIFORNIA ACTION ALERT (Forwarded from National Vaccine Information Center)

Tomorrow, Wednesday, April 25, 2007, at 1:30 p.m. there will be a hearing in the California State Assembly Committee on Education to vote on Assembly Bill 16 (AB 16). This bill was originally an HPV mandate but was unable to advance and has now been gutted and amended to remove HPV language and replace it with much more dangerous language. With only two days public notice, this bill was rammed through the Assembly Health Committee last week on a vote of 10 - 4.

AB 16 WOULD REMOVE THE POWER FROM THE CALIFORNIA LEGISLATURE TO APPROVE NEW VACCINE MANDATES AND HAND IT OVER TO STATE PUBLIC HEALTH OFFICIALS. ALL NEW VACCINES RECOMMENDED BY THE CDC FOR CHILDREN WOULD BE AUTOMATICALLY MANDATED FIVE YEARS LATER. Citizens would not be able to speak through their elected representatives and stop a new vaccine mandate, such as HPV vaccine, or stop any other new vaccine recommended by the CDC from being mandated.

AB 16 REMOVES THE MEDICAL EXEMPTION, RELIGIOUS EXEMPTION AND PHILOSOPHICAL EXEMPTION TO VACCINATION AND REPLACES IT WITH A PARENTAL “BELIEF” EXEMPTION WHICH HAS NO CONSTITUTIONAL OR LEGAL DEFENSE IF IT IS ELIMINATED IN THE FUTURE. Removal of medical exemption implies there are no medical reasons to exempt and leaves doctors as enforcers of government policy without any moral or legal responsibility for preventing vaccine injuries and deaths. Removal of religious exemption ignores the validity of deeply held religious beliefs opposing vaccination and the right to religious freedom, which is protected under the First Amendment. Exemption for philosophical or conscientiously held beliefs also has more legal standing than undefined parental “beliefs.”

IF PASSED, THIS KIND OF LEGISLATION COULD SET PRECEDENT FOR OTHER STATES TO FOLLOW.

In a democracy, we elect men and women who will listen to our concerns and vote for laws which reflect the will of the majority of citizens. When our elected officials hand over power to unelected government officials, they usually do it so they can ignore the voice of the people and impose laws on citizens against their will.

Rick Rollens, co-founder of the MIND Institute at UC- Davis and father of a vaccine injured autistic son, will be testifying against AB 16 tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. in Room 4202 of the State Capitol in Sacramento, CA.

California State Assembly Committee On Education Members Committee Jurisdiction: Primary jurisdictions are education generally, certificated employees of schools, school finance, and school facilities.

Excerpts from AB 16 Bill…
This bill would, in addition, on and after July 1, 2008 2009, prohibit the governing authority from unconditionally admitting or advancing any female pupil to the 7th grade level of any of those institutions unless the pupil has received the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine.

Immunization of a person shall not be required for admission to a school or other institution listed in Section 120335 if the parent or guardian or adult who has assumed responsibility for his or her care and custody in the case of a minor, or the person seeking admission if an emancipated minor, files with the governing authority a letter or affidavit stating that any or all of the immunizations are contrary to his or her beliefs.

More News on Chiropractic Site Design

Wednesday, April 25th, 2007

I was speaking with a programmer today in Santa Monica and I asked about the chiroprages.com rebuild. While we were talking he mentioned that allchiro.com may actually become the launch page for a host of chiropractic websites that are in the pipeline from a local firm developing sites here.

Allchiro is currently owned by Planet Chiropractic and I did not get any info as to whether they will be selling the domain or will be leasing its use for this project.

I got to see some mockups on pages being designed and it was pretty heavy stuff. Nearly everything was XML backend running from a central server which output content onto the ages we were viewing. For the test mockup all data was coming from the five thousand plus pages of news content planetc1 has amassed over the past decade.

I have two more meetings here in LA and then I am back in New York for conferences. Going to see what’s up with the chiropractic new york project while I am there. They want to use some of my videos… woohoo!

New Chiropractic WebSites

Tuesday, April 24th, 2007

There has been lots of activity going on at the nearme networks Labs and planet chiropractic. Teams from both companies have been working together to develop web sites for chiropractic state organizations, students, local philosophy groups, chiropractic professional groups, and various parties involved in local activities in their states.

Just this past weekend I noticed that the old state map that appeared on the homepage of chiropracticnearme.com was gone and had been replaced by a simple list of states in the USA.

I skyped one of the programmers over at nearme networks and he said they’re working on it. He told me to watch for a new home page that was still going to be flash enabled (like the old one) but would be much easier to use.

As I looked closer not only did the home page change but all the pages listing all of the states had changed as well. Turns out there is now a chiropractic web site for every state in the U. S. and I have a strong feeling the guys at nearme and planetc1 are going to be offering up all those sites to individual chiropractic state organizations for free.

There’s not much content on each page yet but the layout they have created is beautiful. Each state web site is enabled with RSS feeds and users are able to register and begin posting content on their individual state pages directly from the main page. Here is a brief list of some of those states…

Chiropractic North Dakota
Chiropractic Pennsylvania
Chiropractic West Virginia
Chiropractic Colorado
Chiropractic New Jersey

You can get a complete list of all the web sites on the main chiropracticnearme.com homepage. This looks like a great project with some great tools made available to the entire chiropractic profession.

California Chiropractic College Seeks New President

Sunday, April 22nd, 2007

by Michael Dorausch, DC

Southern California University of Health Sciences in Whittier, California is seeking a new college president after an announcement by Dr. Reed B. Phillips that he will be stepping down as the institution’s president. The California chiropractic college had been known as Los Angeles Chiropractic College (LACC) until only a few years ago when the school decided to add acupuncture to its curriculum and change the name of the institution to SCUHS.

Dr. Phillips has served as the president of the chiropractic college for the past 16 years. He will continue to serve as president of the school until a replacement is agreed upon. Dr. Phillips is a member of the Board of Directors for the Association of Chiropractic Colleges and was a signing member of the July 1996 ACC Chiropractic Paradigm, a position paper on the practice of chiropractic.

According to the ACC paper, Chiropractic is a health care discipline which emphasizes the inherent recuperative power of the body to heal itself without the use of drugs or surgery. The practice of chiropractic focuses on the relationship between structure (primarily the spine) and function (as coordinated by the nervous system) and how that relationship affects the preservation and restoration of health. In addition, Doctors of Chiropractic recognize the value and responsibility of working in cooperation with other health care practitioners when in the best interest of the patient.

The new university president will report to the Board of Regents and will act as chief executive officer of the campus. The president will provide direction, leadership and purpose to the campus community and will be instrumental in operations geared towards the university’s mission, vision, values and goals.

Planet Chiropractic wishes Dr. Reed Phillips all the best in his future endeavors and thanks him for his many years of service as a leader in chiropractic. We hope the Chiropractic University will select someone with great leadership abilities that will work in continuing to advance the profession of chiropractic as a natural and drug-free approach to health and wellness.

Planet Chiropractic Does Las Vegas

Sunday, April 22nd, 2007

While sponsoring a chiropractic conference in Las Vegas, Nevada this past weekend, Planet Chiropractic announced the creation of their new Nevada Chiropractic Directory.

The Nevada chiropractic directory is a shift for the Planet Chiropractic web site creation giant as the new format now exists as its own (sub) domain. With this new format, the Nevada directory exists as a subdirectory of the chiropractor locator page, providing a ZIP code searchable database of local chiropractors in the United States.

The Nevada directory will be the first to have its page content incorporated into the search database on the ZIP code location system. With these changes being made visitors to the location page will be able to search data from the Nevada directory, and eventually search data from all other state directories that planet chiropractic provides data services for.

PC Founder, Dr. Michael Dorausch, a Los Angeles chiropractor, believes that incorporating multiple databases and providing improved search methods, will ultimately result in a better user experience for those seeking information about chiropractic as well as individuals seeking to locate chiropractors in their area.

ChiroPages to launch new website

Thursday, April 19th, 2007

I was speaking with some programmers today that are working on a project for the website chiropages.com and they were telling me a new database driven site hosting project is scheduled to appear on that domain by mid summer. Two companies have been working together on the project and I did not get more information other than that there was going to be a lot of tools available for chiropractors to create better websites.

I did a WHOIS lookup on the domain and this was the information I located…
Domain Name: CHIROPAGES.COM
Registrar: GO DADDY SOFTWARE, INC.
Whois Server: whois.godaddy.com
Referral URL: http://registrar.godaddy.com
Name Server: NS1.NEARMENETWORKS.COM
Name Server: NS2.NEARMENETWORKS.COM
Status: clientDeleteProhibited
Status: clientRenewProhibited
Status: clientTransferProhibited
Status: clientUpdateProhibited
Updated Date: 22-sep-2006
Creation Date: 12-sep-2006
Expiration Date: 12-sep-2007

Does not appear like a very old domain to me. It will be interesting to see what appears on the website in the upcoming months. I did get some info from the same programming team that the NearMe Chiropractic Project is back on task and the old chiropracticnearme.com website is going to be deleted in the next 30 days or less. Word is a new site is getting launched that is providing state related information for doctors of chiropractic. I was told there would also be information about all of the chiropractic colleges that are in the USA.

Medicine and Search Engine Results

Thursday, April 19th, 2007

After using the Internet for the past 15 years I think that yesterday was the first time that I ever can recall doing a search for the term medicine.

I do searches for the term chiropractic and chiropractic related topics many times each day but I can’t recall ever doing a search for the term medicine. People often tell me it must be really difficult to maintain a web site with a top 10 search engine ranking for terms such as chiropractic. For example, the popular web site planet chiropractic has been in Google’s top 10 search results since as long as I can remember. Most of the web sites appearing in the top 10 for that term have been there for quite some time with the exception of Wikipedia and maybe one or two other web sites.

I never really gave it much thought before but after someone mentioned it yesterday I thought if the term chiropractic was tough to rank for, then the term medicine could potentially be a really difficult term to get recognized in the top 10. I decided to do some research which I will share with you here. It is always important to remember that search changes all the time and the information I’m sharing here today may not be valid tomorrow.

I went to Google, the world’s most popular search engine, and did a search for the term “medicine.” (click on the term to the left to see what’s in Google’s results) Here is the list of the top 10 sites that appeared when I did my searching, along with some information about the web sites showing up on the list.

Search Term: Medicine
Position #1 - Wikipedia
Wikipedia is in position number one but I don’t know when they took over the top position. Although the Wikipedia medicine page does not have the highest PR on the list, it is in the top position. The Wikipedia page currently has a PR7.

Position #2 - MedicineNet
MedicineNet is a web site owned by WebMD. It was interesting to me to discover that WebMD is not listed in the top 10 when searching for the term medicine. From what I could find by doing some online research, WebMD Health Corp. (referred to as WHC) acquired MedicineNet, Inc. on December 24, 2004 for approximately $17,223. Less than three years later, that seems to me as an incredibly spectacular deal for the WebMD Corp. MedicineNet currently has a PR7 page rank value.

Position #3 - Medicine in the Yahoo! Directory
The Yahoo! Directory sits in position number three for the term. The top three search terms are often considered platinum, gold, and silver. I would imagine it would be a pretty massive feat for web site to move any of these top three out of their current positions. It’s nice to see that Google has Yahoo! listed as a resource when doing searches.

Position #4 - MedlinePlus ( a .gov website)
MedlinePlus is a United States Government web site owned by the NIH (National Institute of Health) and the National Library of Medicine. Of all the web sites I checked appearing in the top 10, medlineplus (along with another .gov) had the highest PR ranking, which was a PR8.

For those that don’t know, this is what a PR8 PageRank image looks like… page rank 8

Position #5 - DMOZ Open Directory Project
The number five position goes to the Open Directory Project also known as DMOZ. I would’ve thought that the open directory had been around for ages but according to whois records the web site was created in January 1999. Page rank for the medicine directory area was PR7. Here is some in info from whois…

Domain ID:D2914575-LROR
Domain Name:DMOZ.ORG
Created On:02-Jan-1999 05:00:00 UTC
Last Updated On:03-Jan-2007 01:21:39 UTC
Expiration Date:02-Jan-2008 05:00:00 UTC
Sponsoring Registrar:America Online, Inc (R19-LROR)

Interestingly, on the DMOZ page for the term medicine, the top three directories listed were as follows…

Medical Specialties (4,804) — Surgery (2,238) — Alternative Medicine (5,325)

Apparently there are more listings for alternative medicine then there are for medical specialties.

Position #6 - National Library of Medicine - National Institutes of Health (www.nlm.nih.gov)
In position number six was another United States government web site. This one was the national library of medicine, the same branch of government that owns the web site in position number four. This web site also has a PR8 page rank value.

Position #7 - eMedicine
According to the web site, eMedicine features up-to-date, searchable, peer-reviewed medical journals, online physician reference textbooks, and a full-text article database. This is another medical web site that was purchased by WebMD Corp. According to information I could locate on the purchase, the web site sold for around $25,195 and it was acquired in January of 2006. Currently this web site has a PR7 Google page rank.

Position #8 - The www virtual library biosciences medicine (www.ohsu.edu/cliniweb/wwwvl/)
This web site really has quite a long URL and it’s impressive to find them holding position number eight for this particular search term. The web site is owned by Oregon Health Sciences University and it is the only educational (.edu) domain appearing in the top 10 list. The URL which is listed above is at a current page rank of PR7.

Position #9 - www.md-journal.com
Position number nine is a web site owned by a major health-care book publisher called Lippincott Williams & Wilkins. According to the description tag, the web site is a “Bimonthly journal covering the latest results in clinical investigation relevant to hospital and office practice.” When I checked the web site they were using session ID tags so page rank was not appearing. The web site displayed a PR of zero.

Position #10 - Google Directory - Health > Medicine
Google’s own directory is holding position number 10 for the search term medicine. When I checked the category listings, there were 6308 listed forAlternative Medicine and 66 listed for Basic Sciences. The full URL is: www.google.com/Top/Health/Medicine/ and the Google directory page had a PR value of 7.

Among the things that I thought were interesting was that the number one position was held by a page that can be edited by anyone with an Internet connection. The number two page and number three page were owned by commercial entities, one doing business specifically in the field of medicine. There were two government web sites and to web sites owned by the Web MD Corp. appearing in the top 10. WebMD was the only commercial entity focused in the field of medicine making it to the top 10 list.

Interestingly, there were no drug companies on the top 10 list. The American Medical Association is also absent from the list. Also, the United States government was running a Google adwords campaign warning of the risks of purchasing medicines online. I also saw a contextual ad for MSN, advertising their medical directory pages.

Maybe I’ll check back on this topic in a year or so. Thanks for reading and best of health to you!

Pennsylvania Chiropractic Office Advertising in California

Tuesday, April 17th, 2007

I am seeing more chiropractors advertise their local offices through contextual ad programs such as those offered by google, yahoo, and MSN.

An important thing that I think many chiropractors do not realize (until the frst billing statement comes in) is that they should be limiting the radius that their ads will appear on so that advertisments for chiropractic services in Pennsylvania are not showing up on web screens in California (and possibly every other state).

Today I noticed an advertisment for an office in Wayne, PA called the “Westside Wellness Chiropractic Center.” Chances are they are not aware that ads they are placing are appearing in other states. That would be fine if they were selling product but it’s probably a waste of money when wanting to promote services for the local area.

In Los Angeles I have seen ads for offices in Alaska, Pennsylvania, Chicago, New York, and many other locations not in the state of California.

So, make sure you are limiting the radius of where ads appear so that your chiropractic ads are not appearing on websites in other states and potentially costing you valuable ad dollars.

My column on the Human Papilloma Virus vaccine

Monday, April 16th, 2007

By Darrel Crain, DC

Editor’s commentary: In March of 2007 Dr. Darrel Crain had an article published in a biweekly column of a local San Diego newspaper regarding the Human Papilloma Virus vaccine. With the author’s permission, a copy of that article appeared on Planet Chiropractic later that month. Apparently, a local San Diego orthodontist was not happy with the contents of the article that appeared in the San Diego newspaper. The orthodontist suggested Dr. Crain be deleted from writing for the newspaper because he is too critical of medicine.

A response from Dr. Crain (which will unlikely be published in the Alpine Sun) can be viewed below.

(If you follow any of the links below it is suggested that you save the content for off-line viewing as source information may soon be deleted or moved.)

——————

Dr. Cynthia Jackson (My Turn, The Alpine Sun, April 5, 2007) writes that information in my column on the Human Papilloma Virus vaccine (Good Health Naturally, The Alpine Sun, March 1, 2007) is “biased,” “irresponsible” and “misleading.” I get the distinct impression she doesn’t agree with my views on this topic.

Nevertheless, I stand by the accuracy and fairness of my remarks. I offer the following information and sources in response to her charges.

I defer to the American Cancer Society for an assessment of the risk of cervical cancer: “Cervix cancer is rare in this country today because most women get Pap tests that find it early or before it starts. Almost all women who have had sex will have HPV at some time, but very few women will get cervix cancer… Most people will never know they have HPV. The infection usually doesn’t last very long because your body is able to fight the infection. If the HPV doesn’t go away, the virus may cause cervix cells to change and become precancer cells. Precancer cells are not cancer. Most cells with early precancer changes return to normal on their own.”

It bears repeating that the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) advises the public that the only risk of cervical cancer is not getting a regular Pap smear.

Dr. Jackson insinuates that I made up the story linking higher education and financial status to lower vaccine compliance. I refer her to the February 2007 issue of the American Journal of Public Health for the large study published there entitled, “Children’s Immunization Status Worsens as Mothers’ Income, Education Rise.”

Dr. Jackson tells us that the National Vaccine Information Center (NVIC) is a biased and therefore unreliable source for information about the alarming rate of adverse reactions to the HPV vaccine compared to reactions to other vaccines. This is apparently because NVIC was founded by parents of vaccine-damaged children.

Established in 1985, NVIC reports on data collected by the federal Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System. News services around the world publish information and analysis prepared by NVIC. The credentials of its founder and director, Barbara Loe Fisher, include serving on the National Vaccine Advisory Committee, being appointed to the Institute of Medicine Vaccine Safety Forum and serving as the consumer voting member on the FDA Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee from 1999-2003.

Dr. Jackson reminds us that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, yet she makes the unsupported claim that condoms provide no protection against HPV transmission. The only research I am aware of that has asked this question was published in the June 2006 New England Journal of Medicine. The authors of the study concluded that condoms prevent transmission of HPV an impressive 70 percent of the time.

Dr. Jackson seems to feel I am judging our medical system too harshly. Let’s see, we have the second worst infant mortality rate in the developed world. Our kids are more vaccinated and medicated that any children on the planet, yet diabetes, asthma, autism, food allergies and autoimmune diseases are getting worse every year. This is not a medical system with a “good track record,” in my view this is a medical system that has fallen over on the track and needs resuscitation.

According to my research, the experimental HPV vaccine has never prevented a single case of cervical cancer and we have to wait about thirty years before any data will be available to support the claim that it can even do so. In the end though, people do not make decisions based on verifiable facts, rather they decide based on their feelings and beliefs.

Which brings us to one thing Dr. Jackson and I do agree on, parents must have the right to exempt their child from vaccination based on personal beliefs and values.

Planting Seeds of Chiropractic Healing

Monday, April 16th, 2007

by Dr. Robert J. Moore, Chiropractor

This article is commentary based on an article originally authored by Kim Painter which recently appeared in USA Today: Plant seeds of healing: Nature ‘makes you feel better’

In a 2005 Portland study, cardiac rehabilitation patients who visited a garden and worked with plants left with a lower heart rate and a better mood than those who attended a standard patient education class. Some other studies showed that patients feel a pleasant sense of escape and control when they are allowed to wander in gardens.

The studies suggest that there is a healing power in flowers, trees, fresh air and fragrant soil. Some studies reportdly found that strolling through a garden or, for that matter, seeing one out your window, can lower blood pressure, reduce stress and ease pain. It was shown that to simply get out there and start digging will multiply the benefits.

“It’s so basic,” says Joy Harrison, past executive director of the American Horticultural Therapy Association. “You go out and putter in the backyard, and it makes you feel better.”

From a chiropractic standpoint the studies are missing a key factor: spinal movement. When the spine moves in a balanced and relaxed manner many things happen that calms the bodyÂ’s natural stress response. Add to this the relaxing mindset of GodÂ’s green earth and you have the mind-body connection.

Positive motion nerve impulses from the spine go to various parts of your brain. This lowers your blood pressure, heart rate, breathing rate, blood glucose, muscle spasms, anxiety and several other natural stress responses. This positive nerve supply allows you to think clearly, learn better, have a better outlook on life, heal faster and enjoy yourself.

It is funny how we keep looking outside ourselves for a cure for something that is inside. Maybe, if we focused on who we are and what we are capable of then we could be the healthy garden that other people see.

Three Oldest Chiropractic Website Companies

Monday, April 9th, 2007

After I finished the last article I decided to check whois records on three chiropractic companies that offer chiropractic website design and hosting services to see who has been around the longest. This is not the most accurate way to check since sometimes domains expire and they may had been registered somewhere else earlier. Being that all three are from the 1990’s I figure the results are fairly accurate.

Domain information was received from godaddy.com (which is a great company for hosting websites).

The first company is called ChiroPlanet and according to whois records their main domain was registered on January 6th, 1999.

Domain Name: CHIROPLANET.COM
Registrar: TUCOWS INC.
Whois Server: whois.opensrs.net
Referral URL: http://WWW.TUCOWS.COM
Name Server: NS1.HE.NET
Name Server: NS2.HE.NET
Name Server: NS3.HE.NET
Status: clientTransferProhibited
Status: clientUpdateProhibited
Status: clientDeleteProhibited
Updated Date: 13-nov-2006
Creation Date: 06-jan-1999

The second domain is called NowYouKnow and they show doman creation records on January 11th, 1999. That is only 5 days after the creation of chiroplanet. Both of these companies are still in business and they host many chiropractic websites.

Domain Name: NOWYOUKNOW.NET
Registrar: GKG.NET, INC.
Whois Server: whois.gkg.net

The third, PlanetChiropractic, shows a creation date of December 2nd, 1998. That would make it the oldest chiropractic website and design comany of the three. To be fair though, Planet Chiropractic hosts and designs mainly for chiropractic organization websites, professional chiropractic content websites, and less than 100 chiropractor in practice type websites.

As I mentioned in a previous post there are few chiropractic website companies that have been around since the 1990’s. I certainly could recommend either of the top two companies as they both continue to provide great services to their clients. I won’t recommend Planet Chiropractic for webhosting / webdesign since I have a financial relationship with the company. :-)

I’ll also again say that GoDaddy has provided superior service for many chiropractic designed websites that are actively hosted on their networks.

Chiropractic Websites Advertised by Design Firms

Monday, April 9th, 2007

A increasing number of companies have been advertising services for chiropractic website design and hosting, according to what I have seen appearing in contextual ad campaigns on websites such as gogle, yahoo and planet chiropractic.

Doing a google search for the term “chiropractic websites” I found the parent domain of this website (allchiro.com) was appearing in the number one position.

I recall quite a few companies getting into internet related services for chiropractors since the mid to late 1990’s. Most of the services I saw being advertised were for companies that are new to the chiropractic arena or were just new altogether.

Of the companies I am familiar with that started in the late 90’s, only two are producing chiropractic websites on any major level. I say major as in companies that are providing services for more than 500 chiropractor websites.

There are probably dozens of firms with templates for chiropractic sites and most of those probably host anywhere from 15-50 different chiropractic domains. I don’t know of many firms providing hosting and or design for numbers in excess of 1000 websites. In fact, I don’t know of any one company that can show hosting evidence of over 1000 active non subdomain sites.

The largest number I have discovered so far is 730 domains hosted on one IP address which is reportedly owned by a chiropractic website building company.

I’ll keep looking for data. If anyone has more info feel free to forward it to me.

Currently 17 Chiropractic Schools in USA

Monday, April 9th, 2007

While there have been hundreds of chiropractic schools opened and closed during the 1900’s, there are currently only 17 in the USA that are accredited for chiropractic licensure.

The seventeen US chiropractic schools include Palmer Chiropractic college, which was the first chiropractic school to open (in the early 1900’s) as well as Palmer Chiropractic College Florid, one of the newest chiropractic colleges in the nation.

There are two chiropractic schools in Canada and several others throughout the world. South Africa now has two chiropractic schools. A school of chiropractic recently opened in Mexico City, Mexico and there are schools located in New Zealand, the UK, Japan, Australia, and a few other countries.

Chiropractic has been taught in the USA longer than in any other country with Palmer being the first school to open (Davenport, Iowa circa de 1900).

There are 4 chiropractic schools in the state of California, more than exist in any other state. It comes as no surprise that there are more California chiropractors practicing chiropractic than there are in any other state in the USA.

Not sure which state has the 2nd largest popular of chiropractors but I would expect it is either New York, Florida, or Michigan. I’ll get some details and post them to these pages when I have more info.
