70 Chiropractors To Be Featured in Summer News Series
Thursday, June 5th, 2008By Michael Dorausch, DC
On May 5th chiropractors were invited to post a simple comment on a chiropractic blog post, and 70 have participated as of today’s date. The post was intended to help educate chiropractors as to the value of reputation management and online branding of their small businesses. While many companies could charge handsomely for such a service, Planet Chiropractic wanted to give back to the community and continue the promotion of local chiropractors throughout the world.
The news story on Dr. James Von Hipple and the opening of his new chiropractic practice in Murrieta California was the first nonofficial post of the summer series.
(photo: a classic image of “Nate” Planet Chiropractic mascot from the year 2000)
By simply sharing his contact information, we were able to inquire about his practice and his thoughts on being a chiropractor. Dr. Von Hipple shared a number of photographs which demonstrated the creation of his new chiropractic practice. Posts like the one created showing the different slides of his office in development, are valuable to chiropractic students, and those in the field that may be soon in a similar situation. I think it’s great to see how chiropractic offices take shape as design fundamentals are an important part of building one’s office. I look forward to seeing a number of related articles appearing on Planet Chiropractic this summer.
Also as a result of the commenting, watch for the California chiropractors page to receive some updates, along with several of the other state directory pages. Besides California, there were chiropractors commenting that practice in Illinois, Texas, Toronto, Florida, Washington, Utah, New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Melbourne Australia, Newmarket Ontario, Michigan, and other locations throughout the globe.
It’s not too late for chiropractors to participate, but we are going to provide stories from the initial list of chiropractors first, before we begin a second round of news entries. Depending on how fast chiropractors respond to our authors questions about their practices, and the communities they serve, one could expect to see between two and five featured articles per week appearing on Planet Chiropractic throughout this summer. Not too shabby since we’ll be celebrating nine years of providing chiropractic news posts, as of June 21, 2008. All chiropractic news archives continue to be available.
For those interested, the chiropractors post is available here, and comments are still open.

Fluoride is Poison
Thursday, June 5th, 2008San Diego Fluoridation Hearing Notice 2008
Wednesday, June 4th, 2008by Michael Dorausch, DC
Health minded individuals living in San Diego, California are requesting your help in turning out hundreds of fluoridation opponents at a San Diego City Council meeting which will be held on June 10th at 2pm. Even if you donÂ’t live in the San Diego area, you may know someone who does who may wish to attend this meeting. This is too important for anyone who is against fluoridation to ignore.
Fluoridation Hearing Notice and the Distribution of Hazardous Waste for Profit
Tuesday, June 10th, 2008, 2 p.m., next to the Civic Theater in downtown San Diego - 12th Floor
The Fluoridation Hearing before the San Diego City Council is expected to be held on Tuesday, June 10th during the 2 p.m. session. Concerned residents of San Diego will have an opportunity to fill out a speaker’s slip before the 2 p.m. presentation so that they can state their opposition presentation to the city Council. Residents will be given about one to two minutes to share their thoughts on pumping fluoride into San Diego water supplies.
According to Anita Shattuck, the practice of fluoridation is the fraud of the century. She provides a detailed and well referenced article relating to the lack of scientific evidence showing any benefit of water fluoridation practices. Another valuable resource includes the Fluoride Action Network, an international coalition created to broaden public awareness about the toxicity of fluoride compounds and the health impacts of current fluoride exposures.
Resources from Planet Chiropractic include:
Fluoridation Folly — Gilbert City Council proposes to dump in fluorosilicates, a waste by-product of the fertilizer industry. Fluoride apologists - led by dentists and 1 stray city council member - consistently fail to mention this toxic little fact.
Fluoridation Flows and Flaws — Many people need to avoid fluoride altogether to preserve their health, we know this because scientists in government agencies have documented it thoroughly. Babies up to one year old, pregnant moms, the elderly, and anyone with kidney problems, thyroid problems, liver problems, diabetes mellitus or cardiovascular problems all need to be as fluoride free as possible.
Fluoride in the Fountain — California’s law stipulates that all municipal water shall soon contain a form of fluoride, a tasteless and colorless “co-product” of the phosphate fertilizer industry, mostly hydrofluosilicic acid and a couple of its chemical cousins.
Fluoride Fanatics Beginning to Appear More Mainstream — According to the news, recent research is suggesting that fluoride may be connected to a number of serious conditions, which includes the development of a rare bone cancer (osteosarcoma) in teenage boys, reduced levels of intelligence in children, and the impairment of thyroid function.
Residents of San Diego can contact Mayor Jerry Sanders and all members of the San Diego City Council to notify them of the potential risks involved when adding chemicals to municipal water supplies.

City Council meetings are held Monday and Tuesday of every week except during scheduled Legislative Recesses. The meetings can be watched on CityTV - Channel 24 on Cox Communications and Time Warner Cable within the San Diego City limits or via live webcast. Council President Scott Peters (District 1) and contact information for representatives of all other districts is available here. With all the EPA related news regarding pharmaceuticals being found in the drinking water of at least 41 million Americans, and so many individuals, businesses, and corporations moving in the direction of being more environmentally conscious, it is surprising to me that there are those continuing to seek profit over common sense.
Palmer Rugby Alumni 2009 Sunshine Tour
Wednesday, June 4th, 2008By Michael Dorausch, DC
It’s early news, but Palmer Rugby Alumni are hosting a 12 hours continuing education chiropractic event in Deerfield Beach, Florida late February and early March of 2009. Members of Palmer Rugby Alumni want to keep the fire burning. The event features Palmer graduate Dr. Fred Schofield and it’s held in conjunction with the 2009 Fort Lauderdale Ruggerfest.

The Palmer college rugby team had a successful season finishing among the top 16 in the country. They traveled extensively to prepare against top level competition. There season led them to Florida, Kansas City, St. Louis, Nashville, Atlanta, and Austin. This resulted in the team going over budget. The school has gone overboard supporting the team of late and I wish to challenge the Old Boys to generate half of the difference to the budget and what was spent by homecoming.
2009 Sunshine Tour PCC Approved 12 Hours — Latest Technologies Communicating Chiropractic and Clinical Applications with Dr. Fred Schofield. The event is taking place at the Howard Johnson Hotel / Conference Center - located at 2096 2nd St. Deerfield Beach, FL 1-800-426-0084.
The continuing education seminar is scheduled to take place on February 27 through March 1, 2009, which is a Friday through Sunday. Those wanting specific information about the event can contact Ron OÂ’Brien in Davenport Iowa at: 1-800-PCC-Alum (press “0″ ask for Ron). When calling the hotel to book for the conference make sure you mention Palmer and the Rugby Club when registering. You’ll save an additional 10% on your room and the seminar and banquet room will be provided free as a result of great attendance. Rooms sold out in 2008 so make sure you book your rooms well in advance. Continuing education has been approved in all states including California.
Check the event pages for (see the bolded link above) more details on the seminar. The 2008 Rugby Sunshine Tour was a success, it took place the same month South African Chiropractor and Palmer alumni alumni Fred Schofield celebrated his 30 years in the United States. He’s been quite an inspiration to a great number of chiropractors throughout the world.
If you happen to be in the Phoenix area this upcoming weekend, come visit in the desert, and spend some time with like-minded chiropractors and lots of Dr. Fred’s closest friends.

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008Airport and Hotels Make Phoenix Great for Conferences
Monday, June 2nd, 2008By Michael Dorausch, DC
There is a number of frustrations that can occur when traveling for conferences. Overbooked flights, hotels located too far from airports, no WiFi access along routes, traffic to and from the airport, are only some of the nuisances that often bother conference going travelers. This weekend I’ll be in Scottsdale, Arizona for a June Schofield event and I was reminded of the many things I like about traveling to the Phoenix area for conferences.
I’ve mentioned Phoenix conferences and hotels for chiropractic events in the past, and after traveling there are nearly every month for the past seven years, I have a good amount of knowledge about the area.
(photo: a view of the luscious grounds at the Arizona Biltmore and Spa in Scottsdale, Arizona)
The first great thing about conferences in Phoenix is that it’s a centrally located place that has a number of great conference centers and hotel resorts located a short distance from the PHX airport. I typically travel from Los Angeles, so it’s pretty easy for me to get to Phoenix, thank you Southwest Airlines. The PHX airport has undergone a number of renovations during the years I have been traveling there, and in my experience they have all been for the better, except for maybe the shuttle to the rental car centers (seems to take longer now).
Traveling Southwest I spend most of my time in terminal 4 of the Phoenix airport. There’s a number of great places to get a meal and I have had no problem getting WiFi Internet access throughout the airport facility. If I have food and an Internet connected laptop, I am good for hours. The facility is clean and it feels more like a shopping mall than an airport. I can’t say that about the Southwest terminal at LAX (bring your own WiFi).
There are some great hotels located a short distance from the Phoenix airport. I’ve stayed at the Scottsdale Plaza Resort, the Four Seasons Resort on Crescent Moon Drive (incredible views), Marriott Camelback Inn (terrific for hiking), the Hyatt Regency Scottsdale on Doubletree, the Hilton Scottsdale on North Scottville Road (bunch of restaurants across the street), Sanctuary (a bit secluded but beautiful hotel), the Phoenician Hotel, the Arizona Biltmore Resort & Spa (my favorite), the Doubletree La Posada Resort (don’t think that hotel is there any more), and multiple others.
There’s few hotels I haven’t liked in the Scottsdale area, in fact, I can’t think of any. I have also attended a number of conferences in Tempe Arizona (all at the Tempe Mission Palms). A good majority of the hotels are within short driving distance of the PHX airport and I don’t know that business travelers would need a rental car if just traveling to the hotel and back to the airport. I’ve found rental cars are affordable in the Phoenix area and they come in handy if you going to be visiting any of the great restaurants that are often located near these hotels. RA for Sushi is one of my favorites (located in both old town Scottsdale and Tempe).
The Carefree resort I am visiting on the weekend is quite a distance from the airport, making it less enjoyable than and location like the Biltmore or Mission Palms. There are some spectacular views out in the Carefree and Cave Creek areas so I suppose that makes the trip worth it.
Whether you’re visiting the area for a chiropractic conference, some other business seminar, or other corporate event, know that the airport at PHX is well-suited for business travelers and there really is a multitude of fantastic locations for seminars and events in the Phoenix area.
