CCA California Chiropractic 12 Hour Relicensing Seminars 2009

Thursday, December 18th, 2008

By Michael Dorausch, DC

In my recent posts about x-ray seminars and Karl Parker seminars I mentioned not yet having information for CCA California Chiropractic Association seminars taking place in 2009. Last year the CCA held affordable relicensing seminars throughout the state of California, and I was trusting they would continue with a similar format for 2009.

Less than an hour from me completing the post regarding the x-ray seminars, I had a fax received at my office from the CCA regarding an upcoming chiropractic seminar taking place in San Diego.

I ran the fax through my Fujitsu ScanSnap S510 (every chiropractor should have one of these in their office) and saved it as a PDF file. One of the girls in the office than converted the seminar fax to a text format, so we could post it here, giving the CCA some extra exposure for their January license renewal program.

The event takes place in San Diego at the Hilton San Diego Resort and Spa, which is on East Mission Bay Drive. There is contact information at the end of this post. I’d recommend calling the CCA for seminar costs, since there was a number of different prices listed, depending on whether doctors of chiropractic were members of the CCA or not.

The CCA has secured special room rates at the hotel and I’d recommend calling them to get information about discount rates when registering for the event. Here is the information from the fax…

Karl Parker Seminars Celebrating 10 Years

Wednesday, December 10th, 2008

By Michael Dorausch, DC

I received a fax the other day from Karl Parker Seminars saying they are holding their 10 year chiropractic seminar celebration on January 22 through January 25, 2009. The event is going to be at the Riviera Hotel in Las Vegas.

The details of the event are on the chiropractic seminars page (scroll down for the January Karl Parker event). I’ve met Dr. Karl the few times over the years, always at seminars in Las Vegas, and this looks like it’s going to be a great chiropractic event.

According to the flyer, there’s going to be more than 55 speakers, covering over 125 different classes. The program is also offering 24 hours of continuing education (CE) credits and I would advise all chiropractors check to see that those credits are valid in their state of practice.

It’s important for all chiropractors to get their relicensing credits taken care of each year (except for in a few states) and January is a great time to do so. I typically wait until October (even though I’ll attend a dozen plus events throughout the year) to get my credits at a CCCLA homecoming event.

I don’t have any news yet for California CCA license renewal seminars yet, but I’m sure a schedule for California coursework will be available soon.

What’s unique about this Karl Parker seminar is that it’s incredibly affordable for chiropractors to attend. I booked hotel rooms in Las Vegas for this January and prices were very reasonable. For this chiropractic seminar, they want you to stay at the Riviera Hotel, so they have an incentive to attend the event nearly free. Check the posted seminar information for more details. You can also call 888 437-5275 and talk to someone about attending this January chiropractic event.

Focus the East Coast - DCS the West Coast

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

By Michael Dorausch, DC

Two chiropractic events taking place this week that deserve the attention of this blog are Sharon Gorman’s Focus Chiropractic Event in Pennsylvania, and DCS in Newport Beach, California. The Focus event takes place at the Howard Johnson hotel in Bartonsville Pennsylvania on Saturday, December 6th. DCS December takes place Wednesday night, December 3rd. More information on the FOCUS meeting here.

The above photograph was taken at a DCS earlier this year (either the Patrick Gentempo event or the Fred Schofield event) and it features chiropractors (or soon to be chiropractors) Christopher Vargas, Lance Cohen, Billy DeMoss, and Adana Moses.

One thing that the East Coast Focus and West Coast DCS have in common is chiropractic community. It has been my opinion for many years now that it’s really important for chiropractors to hang out together. I’ve learned that it doesn’t matter if your practice is a subluxation based practice, or a manipulation under anesthesia facility, you’re better off hanging out with people that share common goals, principles, and ideals.

I don’t know if the MUA crowd actually gets together for beers now and then but I wouldn’t be surprised if they do. I’ve been to lots of Focus events (on the East Coast and on the West Coast) but I certainly haven’t had my share. Every time I hang out with the chiropractors that attend Sharon’s meetings, I get blown away by their commitment to the practice and principles of chiropractic.

West Coast chiropractors are a different breed but there are definitely those that are excited as hell to be doing what they do. I like when East Coast chiropractors (like Joe Accurso) are invited to the West Coast to speak at DCS. It’s a rather inspirational experience.

But inspiration without perspiration is pretty much a crappy situation to be in, so it’s good to see that DCS folks continue to do these events on a regular basis, and that chiropractors are serving more people in the communities surrounding Orange County as a result.

Nobody should be missing out on the DCS 2009 California jam, and local California chiropractors would benefit greatly from coming to hang out on DCS Wednesday night clubhouse events. Even if you disagree with those speaking, the odds are pretty darn good that you’ll have some rewarding conversation with at least one other local chiropractic practitioner that’s in attendance.

Isn’t fellowship what it’s all about?

2009 Seminars and Conferences post in December

Thursday, November 27th, 2008

By Michael Dorausch, DC

December is a good time for chiropractors to plan in advance what seminars, conferences, and continuing education events they will be attending in the 2009 season. I’ve noticed increased activity for 2009 seminar schedules from Parker, New Beginnings, Palmer, Schofield Chiropractic Training, the ICPA, Cleveland Chiropractic College, and others, posting 2009 schedules to the chiropractic seminars pages, earlier this month. For those that have them listed, we’ll probably put together a 2009 round of at the end of December, so chiropractors can make travel plans in advance.

Among my personal list of must attend events, are the 2009 DCS California Jam taking place in Orange County — California, the 2009 Parker Las Vegas seminar (at the Las Vegas Hilton), the New Beginnings for a New Future conference in January and February (although I’d personally wait until April since California has warmed my blood), April 2009 Schofield Chiropractic Training in Las Vegas (Westin Hotel has been awesome for SCT seminars the past few years), and the 2009 Sunshine Tour in Deerfield Beach Florida (taking place in February March). That’s only events for the first three months of the year, I’ll check through the database and highlight my personal favorites.

Hallway @ ADIO Chiropractic in Los Angeles

You can’t go wrong with Parker Vegas, New Beginnings, Palmer Homecoming, and Sherman Homecoming, as they are all great events. Since I’m a lifetime alumni at CCCLA I’ll do my 2009 continuing education there, but I plan to be going to at least one other chiropractic college homecoming event in 09.

As far as chiropractic adjusting technique goes, I noticed there are Thompson and Logan sessions, Koren Specific Technique sessions, Short Lever Adjusting sessions, Pediatric Adjusting sessions, Gonstead sessions, and even MUA certification (manipulation under anesthesia) sessions.

There are seminars taking place in warm climates, cold climates, awesome hotels, small business type hotels, Mega Vegas resort hotels, and a few events in places like Hawaii, the Bahamas, Cancún, and others. I’ll pull out all the resort type events and create a separate post for those. The Schofield training events rock for location, since they are often held in the Phoenix area (nice weather - HOT - almost all year round).

Here is the SCT MoChihChu 2009 schedule in PDF format, if you are putting on chiropractic seminars in 2009, you’re welcome to e-mail your 2009 schedules in PDF format, and I’ll be sure the staff get them posted somewhere on the blog pages. Adding seminars continues to be free, and it suggested that you do listings on your own. We will do our best to promote them from there.

The Dead Chiropractic Society with Dr. Fred Schofield

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

Posting some news for my friends at DCS. Dr. Fred Schofield will be speaking on September 24, 2008 @ 8pm.

Bring out your dead!

Event begins at 8pm. There is plenty of parking in the DCS lot. Check directions for coming in from San Diego and Los Angeles. Most chiropractors traveling south to Newport Beach can take the 405 to the Campus Drive exit in Newport. Chiropractors coming from the South can save time and hop on the 73 toll road.

Additional details for this DCS event are available on the seminar pages. Register online using PayPal to make everything easier for yourself and those putting on the event. The DCS crew works hard to make sure events are well attended (they sell out nearly every time).

Save gas and be good to the environment, don’t travel alone. Find other chiropractors in your area and bring them along. There’s pizza, there are beverages, and there is lots of chiropracTIC.

Don’t forget to mark your calendar for DCS California Jam 2009 - Orange County California. The date is March 7, 2009 and there will be continuing education provided on Friday, March 6, 2009. A rock ‘n roll performance has been added to this year’s agenda which will once again be held at the Performing Arts Center in Orange County, California.

Miami Joe Does DCS in Newport Beach

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

By Michael Dorausch, DC

New York raised and Miami, Florida practicing chiropractor, Dr. Joe Accurso spoke last night at the Dead Chiropractic Society (DCS) clubhouse in Newport Beach, California.

The event was attended by about 100 chiropractors, chiropractic assistants, and students from around the Southern California area of Orange County and LA County.

chiropractors Joe Accurso and Don Trepany

Here’s a photo from last night of Dr. Joe Accurso with Culver City practicing chiropractor, Don Trepany (he is my local chiropractor).

I had not seen Joe since around 2002 so it was great having him in the SoCal area. Many thanks to DCS for bringing him out.

Dr. Joe spoke about a number of topics (I believe the whole event was videotaped) related to the philosophy and art of chiropractic. He talked about Ayn Rand and The Fountainhead (great book) and made comparisons of practicing principled chiropractic to those of practicing principled architecture and structural design.

Joe also talked at length about the role chiropractic plays in the prevention of cancer. Not the sort of thing you’ll hear at a typical chiropractic event, but something you will most certainly hear being discussed amongst DCS chiropractors, and similar groups. It was refreshing listening to his thoughts on bodily functions and the role symptoms play in health, sickness, conditions, and disease.

While Bill DeMoss gets much of the credit for putting on these events (as he should), we can’t forget about the DCS wrecking crew. These women work hard to make sure things happen. Packing more than a hundred chiropractors (mix in pizza and beverages) into someone’s office for a presentation can be daunting task. They do it every month.

DCS Chicks

Thanks to DCS for putting on these monthly events. September features Dr. Fred Schofield, which promises to be an off-the-wall event. Also, it’s not too early to get registered for the DCS California Jam 2009 - Orange County California. 3000 are expected in attendance, 12 hours of relicensing will be offered, and the late night festivities feature a rock ‘n roll (undisclosed act) performance that will shake the OC and beyond.
